In 1917, in the little town of Fatima, Portugal, the Virgin Mary appeared to three young children. She told them she was sent by God and had a message for all people. While the world was still reeling from World War I, Our Lady told the children that Heaven would grant peace if nations prayed and obeyed. She specifically told them to tell everyone to say the rosary.

The children asked Mary to give them a sign so everyone would believe they had seen her.

Later, when people from all over the world came to the site, the sun became a brilliant ball of fire, and the image of the Virgin Mary was seen in it. The event became known as the Miracle of the Sun.
