A Day in Door County

Do you need a little peace in your life right now? I know I do. And the best way to get peaceful is to head on down to the lake for a sunset moment. No matter how often I've seen the sunsets in Door County, there are no two sunsets alike. Each experience is awe inspiring, new and full of wonder. The sun is shimmering on the water as it casts its golden glow on the faces of all of us watching.

Sitting on a bench or rocks along the shore, we peacefully gaze at the lake, sailboats drift by, the sun slowly dips into the water leaving a stream of coral in the sky.

We also like to eat! Door County is a haven of great restaurants, outdoor dining, coffee houses and bakeries. Fat Belly, (who could not love that name?), is a new restaurant in Sister Bay hidden behind the Go Cart track. Three men in the food industry were laid off due to the Corona Virus and decided to open Fat Belly, where you won't get too fat because the food is healthy, tasty and YUM! I ate there the other day and had fun choosing the ingredients for my bowl: chicken on garlic bacon rice, fastia bells, onions, cabbage slaw, lime cream and saltado sauce for my bowl of yummyness. Fat Belly is open every day from 11 a.m to 8 p.m. You can sit at tables along the porch or in the yard at picnic tables.

Or just take your food down to the lake and eat as you watch the sunset.

And, oh, the gardens....

Gardens abound in Door County. They grace the fronts of shops and the resident's backyards. Slowing down on a walk or riding on a bike through neighborhoods and country roads gives you a birds' eye view that you wouldn't see just speeding by in a car. There is a hidden surprise around each corner.

Daisies grow out of million year old rock formations....their faces reaching for the sun

You'll definitely come across an array of furry creatures in Door County. I met Rufus on a sunset walk the other night. At first I thought he was a stuffed animal but his owner/mama assured me he was real. A tiny little guy, Rufus has 5000 Instagram followers (Rufus the teenie weenie) as he travels with his parents all around the country on boats, bikes and scenic rides.

Of course, I can't leave without sharing a photo of my Angel. She may not be ON the boat but she's nearby as we walk along the Marina in Sister Bay meeting all the other dogs and friendly families. She will soon be an Instagram star, too.
